Trains & sounds

I found this on reddit. Trains making music, "playing" sounds  through the tonal scale upon departure.

Artist Bartholomaus Traubeck has created musical masterpieces, by playing trees. He created a record player that translates the different colors and textures of tree rings into music. Rather than use a needle like a record, sensors gather information about the wood and turn them into piano notes. Every tree sounds vastly unique due to varying characteristics of the rings, such as strength, thickness and rate of growth.

Berberian Sound Studio official trailer

Peter Strickland, the director of Katalin Varga, returns with a very different tale with Berberian Sound Studio. Set in 1976, Toby Jones plays a documentary sound engineer who finds himself employed by a notorious low-budget Italian horror studio. Uneasy in his new environment and surrounded by a world he finds alien, he throws himself into his work, failing to notice how life is slowly beginning to imitate art. An homage to the classic Italian Giallos of the period, Strickland's film is another triumph.

Musique concrète, literally.

Musique concrète, literally: Ricardo Kocadag has developed a record made entirely out of concrete. Amazingly, it plays on any turntable, as you can see and hear in the video. We would have probably chosen another track (i.e. “Concrete Jungle” by Troy Brown or “Concrete” by The Neon Judgement) but it’s cool to see what’s possible in the world of weird music formats.

Spooky Space 'Sounds': real sounds from the NASA

Soaring to the depths of our universe, gallant spacecraft roam the cosmos, snapping images of celestial wonders. Some spacecraft have instruments capable of capturing radio emissions. When scientists convert these to sound waves, the results are eerie to hear. In time for Halloween, we've put together a compilation of elusive "sounds" of howling planets and whistling helium that is sure to make your skin crawl.

Hear the sound on the nasa Website: http://www.nasa.gov/vision/universe/features/halloween_sounds.html

Giant Wooden Xylophone Playing Bach

Have you ever seen a giant wooden xylophone in the forest? Just kidding, of course you haven’t! Well until now that is…. The Japanese adverting agency known as Drill Inc. built a giant wooden xylophone that’s roughly a mile long in the middle of a forest. Each wooden key is made up individual notes, and when a wooden ball starts rolling down it, it plays Bach’s famous Cantata 147. And yeah… they did all of this for a cell phone commercial.

DarwinTunes | Survival of the funkiest

The organic world – animals, plants, viruses – is the product of Darwinian evolution by natural selection. Natural selection expresses the idea that organisms (more accurately their genes) vary and that variability has consequences. Some variants are bad and go extinct; others are good and do exceptionally well. This process, repeated for two billion years, has given us the splendours of life on earth.
